Higher Kinnerton Mersey Tunnel Tour

Yesterday for our monthly Out Of The Village Walk , 23 walkers went by train to Liverpool and enjoyed breakfast at Wetherspoons. We then took a leisurely walk around the Waterfront before our allotted time for our guided tour of the first built Mersey tunnel, namely the Queensway Tunnel.

The Queensway tunnel was officially opened by King George V on 18th July 1934, costing over £8 million to construct, and ranked as the biggest single municipal enterprise ever undertaken, and took just over 8 years to build the 2.13 miles of roadway.

Out of Village Walk

Our visit to Parkgate on the 3rd November was enjoyed by 21 of our group . Everyone caught the train from either Buckley, Penyfordd or Hawarden for our destination of Neston Station. We then walked steadily to Parkgate via the Wirral Way.

Everyone enjoyed Fish and Chips at the famous Chippy there, and most managed an Ice Cream afterwards.

Our next Out of the Village is to Liverpool, where we are having a guided tour of the building of the Mersey Tunnel. With Brunch meal in Wetherspoons opposite James St Station.

Previously we visited Sefton Park and the Palm House. With a picnic lunch in the gardens of the Palm House.

Out of Village Walk

Our most recent out of village walk was held on Thursday 1 September to sunny New Brighton on The Wirral. We arrived at New Brighton railway Station after catching the Wrexham to Bidston train where we changed trains for New Brighton, arriving just after 11am.

Places of interest during our day were the Fairy Glen in Vale Park and lunch in the Ferry pub on Egremont Parade. After lunch we made our way back to New Brighton and the famous Ice Cream Parlour for a delicious ice cream to finish off a wonderful day out.
